Read these instructions carefully and follow them specifically.
1. Your assignment consists of writing one essay (1500 words total) based on one of the specific topics provided. (Please limit your assignment to no more than 1750 words.)
2. Submit original writing. With the exception of correctly cited quotes, do not copy and/or paste material from other sources (plagiarism!). Use your own thoughts and words. Your work will be checked for plagiarism. Your referenced sources must be cited properly.
3. I want to see what you think and know! I will be looking for originality and how you apply what you have learned in this course to specific material.
4. Once you complete your assignment, paste it and submit through the Turnitin module link as prompted.
5. Use MLA style: Double-space, use appropriate font style (e.g. this is Calibri) and size: 12 pt.
Set the margins of your document to 1 inch on all sides.
Indent the first line of paragraphs one half-inch from the left margin. Use italics throughout your essay for the titles.
6. There will be significant point reductions for: Assignments with typos, grammatical errors, assignments which do not follow specific instructions. Assignments falling short of the word minimum requirement will receive point percentage deductions. (The points deduction will reflect the deficit. No assignment under the minimum word requirement will earn an A grade.
7. Important! Your assignment may not be turned in late: it will not be accepted after December 9th. Don’t wait until the last minute to submit.

9. Use the CSUS library as a resource for texts and scholarly journals. Contact a librarian for help if you need it! There are thousands of online resources through the library. Do not use non-academic websites or other non- scholarly sources. If you have an idea for a source you are unsure of, contact me, an ISA, or a librarian.
10. You must have a minimum of five scholarly sources for your work. These five sources can include primary source texts we have read in this class, as well as information in the modules (cited as, for example, “151 Module notes on Death and the Hero”). If you use a primary source from our course (e.g., the Gripisspa trans. by Jackson Crawford), and notes related to your topic, you still must have three additional scholarly sources for your work. (See point “9.” on this list.)
11. Use good quotes to support your original ideas.
12. According to HRS department guidelines for Upper Division writing assignments, in your essay you should: 1) Formulate a central argument/thesis. 2) Organize and develop the central argument consistently in body paragraphs throughoutthe essay. 3) Use transitions and topic sentences to maintain the logical flow of ideas. 4) Substantiate assertions with textual support and analysis. 5) Adhere to grammatical standards and conventions.

By exploring the history, culture and environment of a specific group of people at a specific point in time, you will be able to find expressions in their mythology to support your assertions about what such perspectives might have been and how they were arrived at.
