*I AM ATTACHING THE SOURCES THAT WE HAVE DISCUSSED IN CLASS SO FAR EXCEPT FOR THE SOCIAL DILEMMA (NETFLIX). I AM ALSO ATTACHING THE RUBRIC* THE ASSIGNMENT: Write an essay that either defends OR negates one aspect of “post-truth,” “fake news,” and/or social media literacy/responsibility. You will need to use at least TWO of the sources we have discussed in class as a way to introduce the conversation, support your claims, and/or present a counterargument. You may ONLY use sources we have read for this class. This is a very broad topic which will allow for many different approaches. Part of this assignment will require you to compose a question your essay will answer/address. You will need to create a question that is focused. Your thesis/essay must reflect the scope of the assignment, meaning you will need a thesis that you can adequately and fully argue/develop in 4- 5 pages. Your claims/argument will need to be critically thinking based and will require you to explain your thought process to your readers throughout the essay. Suggested Tasks • The first thing you will need to do is choose your question. What question will your thesis/essay answer? What will be your focus? You will want to make sure that you are able to bring in at least 2 different sources we’ve discussed in class as you present and answer that question. At least one of these two sources must be the documentary The Social Dilemma (2020). • Once you choose your question and decide on the answer to that question (the focus of the essay), choose at least two class sources (one must be The Social Dilemma) that address or comment on your focus. You may use more than two sources that we discussed in class, but your source material for this paper is limited to the sources we have discussed in class thus far. Then, find specific passages, quotes, or sections that are especially relevant to your argument. Consider how you will use those texts. Will they primary be a way to introduce the conversation? Will they be a main focal point of your argument? Will they be used as counterarguments or support for your own argument? 1200-1500 words in length (4-5 pages; this does not include the Works Cited page) o MLA format 9th edition: 12-point, Times New Roman Font; 1″ margins; Works Cited page in MLA 9th ed format. o Must use at least 2 of the texts we have worked with so far this semester (one of which must be The Social Dilemma). You may use more than two sources that we discussed in class, but your source material for this paper is limited to the sources we have discussed in class thus far (The sources attached to the project here).
